Stress and Coping with COVID-19 in Teens

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on adolescent mental health. To do this, we will administer a battery of questionnaires to a sample of adolescents (13-20 years) and their parents and follow them over the course of 6 months in order to chart the progression of various symptoms and experiences. Drawing on our previous longitudinal samples oversampled for anxiety risk (TEENS, BRAINS), we also aim to explore the role of temperament in shaping patterns of risk and resilience.

Aim 1: To investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on adolescent mental health. In this regard, we focus on internalizing (INT) symptoms (anxiety, depression) and maladaptive coping behaviors (e.g., drug use).

Aim 2: To investigate intrinsic factors that may confer increased risk or resilience to the effects of COVID-19 on adolescent mental health. In this regard, we focus on temperament and self-esteem.
